Subject: bail hearing

Dad's bail application was postponed until Friday the 3rd of November, 2000, due to the fact that the Court could not get it's video link connected. We arrived at court at 10am and even though dad's solicitor had delivered to the prison last Friday an order for dad to be presented at the court yesterday he was not brought up there. So, after a lot of phone calls by the barrister and solicitor and the court clerk the application was to go ahead at 2pm. We arrived back at court at this time only to sit there for over an hour while the court clerk tried to get the computer video link connected. She eventually announced to all present that it appeared the telephone cable had been damaged somehow and the bail application would not be proceeding. We had arranged for people to be present at this bail hearing to give character evidence, in person, on dad's behalf. I would say that there were over 20 people present who had come from all parts of the state to support my father. The Judge came into court so that dad could be remanded in custody until Friday (yes, the prison remembered to bring him up this time) and he also awarded costs to dad's solicitors. At least we had a bit of a win there. It is most unfortunate that the persons we had arranged to give character evidence cannot make it on Friday. I am not sure what we will do about this. I arranged for the Supreme Court prothonatory to have the files that l need to find those other documents retreived from storage so that l could look at them yesterday. Unfortunately by the time the court was finished with the Prothonatory was shut. I rang and told them I would be down today to view the files. So, Friday it is then.
